We checked our luggage in with a courier service so we could enjoy the next 5 hours or so of our journey withough the hassle of lugging two 25 kilo suitcases on and off trains.
I’m not a great fan of British public service transport. So the first greatest impression on arrival (most things in Japan are quite familiar to me) is the sheer luxury of the Japanese inter-city commute. Very fast, very smooth and very spacious. It must be added though that most Japanese don’t enjoy this luxury on their daily commute to work. That is an entirely different experience. It would be nice if I can get to show you that at some point.
